Native to an area stretching from Europe and northern Africa to northern China. It was first observed in North America in 2005 near the Montreal-Mirabel International Airport (Quebec), where it presumably arrived on the plane. It was first observed in Ontario in 2012 and in the Toronto metropolitan area (about 400 km from Mirabel) in 2020.
